Giampiero Bartolucci, M.D., F.R.C.P(C). Psychiatry Professor Emeritus, Neuropsychiatry McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario

Dr. Gian Bartolucci graduated from the University of Rome, Italy. He then went to the USA, where he trained in Internal Medicine. Training in Psychiatry at McGill University followed this. Following two years of research in Neurophysiology at Temple University Medical School, he was appointed Director of a Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Centre in Philadelphia. He moved to Hamilton in 1973 to join the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, as well as worked as a psychiatrist within the affiliated hospitals, primarily St. Joseph's. The last several years he spent working with victims of traffic accidents, as well as military and law enforcement personnel. He provides pharmacological treatment of PTSD as part of his role in a team approach to these syndromes. His other interest is that of dual diagnosis in developmental disabilities.

Raymond Gottschalk, M.B.Ch.B., FRCP(C)., Director of the Sleep Laboratory and the Asthma and Respiratory Health Centre, Hamilton, Ontario. Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario

Dr. Raymond Gottschalk was awarded a medical degree (Cum Laude) from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He holds several licensure and board certifications, including internal medicine and respiratory medicine. He has held a number of academic appointments at both the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta and McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Gottschalk is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. He is currently a member of many respiratory societies and associations including the Ontario Lung Association, and a former member of the Alberta Lung Association and the Alberta Asthma Network. Dr. Gottschalk has published many scientific articles in the area of respiratory medicine. He has done extensive work in sleep disorders and their assessment and treatment. For the past several years he has done a number of sleep studies on military veterans and his expertise greatly enhanced the treatment interventions provided by other health care professionals to this patient population.

Jacques J. Gouws, D.Phil., C.Psych. Psychologist in Clinical Private Practice, Cambridge and Hamilton, Ontario

Dr. Jacques J. Gouws was awarded Bachelor, Bachelor Honours, Master's and D.Phil. degrees in Psychology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He completed comprehensive post-graduate training and internship programs in Industrial, Counseling and Clinical Psychology. In South Africa he is credited with establishing the foundation on academic research based assessment and treatment models for the RSA military and police forces. He has provided several interventions and training sessions to Canadian Forces in Edmonton, Kingston and Petawawa. He was a speaker at Veterans Affairs in Charlottetown on implementation of a new client centred system. He has made several CBC TV and Radio appearances on military PTSD related issues. He is the owner and clinic director of two psychology clinics (Cambridge and Hamilton, Ontario) from where he supervises and directs a team of clinicians to provide psychological assessment and treatment of motor vehicle and work accident victims and other clinical population groups who suffer from Mood Disorders and Anxiety Disorders, including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Chronic Pain Disorder. He also provides specialised clinical psychological assessment and treatment for military members and veterans. He has 30 years of extensive experience in multiple work settings, viz., academia, the military (serving almost 17 years), diplomatic corps, government, industry, and private psychological practice (part-time and full-time totalling over 17 years).

Michel P. Rathbone, M.B., Ch.B., Ph.D., FRCP(C). Professor, Department of Medicine (Neurology, Neuroscience and Neuro-pharmacology) McMaster University Health Sciences Centre, Hamilton, Ontario

Dr. Michel P. Rathbone was awarded a medical degree from the University of Liverpool, a Ph.D. in biochemistry from McMaster University and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, with Specialist Certification in Neurology. He is a tenured full professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Neurology, Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology) at McMaster University. He treats about 1,000 new patients per year, many of whom who are suffering the neurological effects of trauma. He maintains a large and active basic science laboratory research program, which focuses on neurotrauma. He has published over 160 scientific papers and abstracts, has 4 patents, and has peer reviewed research funding of over $450,000 per year. Dr. Rathbone holds a Visiting Professorship in the Faculty of Pharmacology, Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Chieti Medical School in Italy. The University of Chieti recently made him Supremum Magistrum, which is an annual award to a scientist who has made outstanding contributions in their field.
